Tri For Shelter

Endurance: the ability to withstand hardship or adversity; especially : the ability to sustain a prolonged stressful effort or activity.

Dr. Jim Simone, Honorary Board Member of Harbor House, will test his endurance at the Ford Ironman competition in Louisville, KY on August 30th.  He will swim 2.4 miles in the Ohio River, bike 112 miles through a prescribed course and run 26 miles within a 17 hour time frame.

Ford Ironman

During the last four years Dr. Simone has brought in over $33,000 for Harbor House with his endurance fundraisers.  He has crossed the Atacama Desert in Chile, biked 260K on the Ho Chi Minh Trail, Climbed the Peaks Challenge in Vermont- Running 50 miles on 6 peaks, and the Desert Rats Race- Running 147 miles from Grand Junction Colorado to Moab, Utah.  Last year he biked across the United States, dipping his bicycle wheel in both oceans.

Harbor House is a not-for-profit organization that provides comprehensive services to survivors of domestic violence and their children.  Harbor House has been in existence for almost 30 years, and the need for our unique services continues to grow.  Unfortunately, because of budget cuts and shifting governmental priorities, Harbor House funding has not increased proportionately.  This year it may decrease significantly.

In order to continue our services to meet the needs of our community, we are asking for your donation.  Not only will your involvement sustain Dr. Simone's efforts to complete this journey, but your generous donation will also aid survivors of domestic violence in their own journey.

Your interest and encouragement are sure to be a great inspiration to him.  Harbor House appreciates your donation and support as well.

Your financial contributions to Tri for Shelter give Dr. Simone incentive to keep enduring.  Domestic violence victims also know about endurance.  They may be enduring abuse in the situation they are in now or they may be enduring the process of recapturing their life, which can be long and difficult.  Harbor House’s mission is to help them through this process, whether through safe shelter, crisis calls, counseling, support groups, legal advocacy, domestic violence education or referrals to other agencies that can meet their needs.

During this time of uncertainty with our grants from the State and the economic downturn in general we truly need the support of every concerned person.  We thank Dr. Simone for his great generosity.  He pays all his own expenses each year so that ALL of the money that you donate goes towards helping our clients.
